Congressman John Curtis is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to join his team in Utah and Washington, D.C. His office is currently hiring for the following positions: DC JOBS
STAFF ASSISTANT
Pay Range: $45,000-$55,000
Preferred experience: Bachelor’s degree 0-2 years of professional experience
Responsibilities: --Maintains front office operations, including answering telephones and responding to voicemails, greeting visitors, assisting with the internship program, and completing other administrative tasks as required.
--Schedules Washington, DC tours for constituents; leads and trains interns to provide tours of the U.S. Capitol building; maintains literature for visitors, including tour information, maps, and Senate gallery passes.
--Handles constituents’ service requests including processing requests for U.S. and state flags; drafting congratulatory or commemorative letters; and general requests for government publications, bills, and speeches.
--Supports the office’s mailroom operation; ensures that all incoming postal and electronic mail is appropriately processed, screened, and routed to appropriate staff; enters constituent mail into the office’s correspondence management system.
--Serves as the senator’s driver, responsible for taking the senator to events and meetings in Washington, DC and staffing the senator at various on and off-campus events and official duties. The Driver must have a valid driver’s license and may be required to work extended and unscheduled hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

ASSISTANT TO CHIEF OF STAFF // DEPUTY SCHEDULER
Pay Range: $65,000-$80,000
Preferred experience: Bachelor’s degree At least 1-2 years of administrative experience
Responsibilities: --Plans and maintains the Chief of Staff’s daily schedule and makes travel arrangements. Assists the Scheduler by organizing and responding to incoming scheduling requests and invitations; assembles the senator’s briefing materials; maintains the senator’s correspondence and records.
-Performs a wide variety of executive administrative duties, including screening incoming telephone calls and coordinating conference calls, processing expense reports, and other special projects as assigned.
-Must exercise discretion and maintain the confidentiality of information; may be required to work extended and unscheduled hours.

SCHEDULER
Pay Range: $75,000-$110,000
Preferred experience: Bachelor’s degree At least 2-5 years of scheduling or administrative experience, preferably on the Hill
Responsibilities: -Maintains the senator’s daily and long-term schedule in Washington, DC, including scheduling appointments, meetings, events, call logs, and general demands for the senator’s time. -Handles the senator’s travel arrangements, including reservations and ticketing. -Oversees the process for organizing and vetting incoming meeting requests and invitations; reviews invitations and prepares responses. -Liaises with other senators, spouses, the White House, agency officials, foreign dignitaries, constituents, lobbyists, the public and office staff. -Must exercise discretion and maintain the confidentiality of information; may be required to work extended and unscheduled hours.

LEGISLATIVE CORRESPONDENT
Pay Range: $65,000-$75,000
Preferred experience: Bachelor’s or advanced degree 0-2+ years of professional experience
Responsibilities: -Sorts incoming constituent correspondence in the office’s constituent relations management (CRM) system. -Conducts research and drafts form letters to respond to general correspondence. -Drafts individualized responses to letters that cannot be answered with a standard reply. -Supports senior legislative staff with research, tracking legislation, hearing preparation, and other responsibilities as needed. -Meets with constituent groups about issues of interest and concern.

LEGISLATIVE AID
Pay Range: $60,000-$70,000
Preferred experience: Bachelor’s or advanced degree Minimum of 2-4+ years of related policy experience Knowledge of the Senate legislative process
Responsibilities: -Conducts research and drafts form letters to respond to general constituent correspondence; drafts individualized responses to letters that cannot be answered with a standard reply. -Manages a smaller policy portfolio; monitors developments within assigned portfolio, committees, and on the Senate floor. -Forms and advances legislative proposals; drafts, analyzes, and tracks amendments and legislation on the Senate and House floors; develops recommendations for votes and co-sponsorship of bills. -Prepares the senator for hearings and meetings by writing background reports and memoranda, briefing them on current issues or legislation, and staffing them at committee hearings and executive sessions. -Writes talking points, floor statements, and remarks. -Represents the senator in meetings with constituents, external stakeholders in the private and public sector, and relevant congressional staff; liaises with committee and agency staff. -Travels with the senator regionally and internationally as necessary.

Responsibilities: -Manages production of daily press clips, maintains media contact lists, and fields press calls. -Helps draft and edit press releases, talking points, newsletters, advisories, video scripts, and digital content. -Assists with executing the digital media strategy; updates the senator’s website and social media sites; designs and executes digital media campaigns. -Captures and edits photos, videos, and audio files; designs graphics for online media; edits and distributes digital content. -Assists with planning and executing press events.

DIGITAL DIRECTOR
Pay Range: $60,000-$80,000

Responsibilities: -Pitches media events, helps draft and edit press releases, talking points, newsletters, advisories, video scripts, and digital content. -Develops the social media outreach strategy and designs and executes digital media campaigns. -Updates the senator’s website and social media sites. -Analyzes web statistics and social media analytics to evolve the office’s digital efforts. -Captures and edits photos, videos, and audio files; designs graphics for online media; edits and distributes digital content. -Assists with planning and executing press events.

PRESS SECRETARY // SPEECHWRITER
Salary Range: $80,000-$95,000
Preferred experience: -Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Communications or a related field of study 3-5 years of experience in communications or public relations -Prior experience on the Hill, in the administration, or on a political campaign -Experience speaking on the record with state and national press
Responsibilities: -Serves as an on-the-record spokesperson for the senator; oversees interview requests and briefings; fields and responds to media inquiries. -Manages media outreach efforts and short- and long-term communications projects; plans and coordinates media coverage, press conferences, state press events, and requests for appearances and interviews with the senator. -Writes and edits speeches, op-ed pieces, press releases, media advisories, newsletters, floor statements, quotes, and talking points. -Develops video scripts; tapes, edits, and coordinates television satellite feeds. -Organizes and staffs press events; develops and maintains relationships with reporters, editors, and producers; works closely with other members of the communications and legislative teams to pitch stories. -Supervises and coordinates activities of the Deputy Press Secretary, Press Assistant, and Press Interns. -Updates biographical and photographic materials of the senator. -Establishes and maintains a historical archive of press generated materials.

REGIONAL REP // COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Pay Range: $52,000-$65,000
Preferred experience: -Bachelor’s degree -Previous experience working in a government office -Foreign language fluency, specific to the region
Responsibilities: -Submits inquiries to federal agencies on behalf of constituents to resolve problems with the Federal government (i.e., Veterans, Social Security, IRS, etc.). -Responds to casework correspondence, meets with local constituents, and maintains log of cases handled by the office. -Monitors casework for problems that might be resolved by legislative action. -Develops and maintains relationships on behalf of the senator with local elected officials, government agencies, local businesses, community organizations, and constituents in assigned geographic/policy area(s) within the state. -Represents the senator at civic meetings, hearings, and community events to monitor developments, opinions and concerns. -Remains current on legislative and non-legislative issues affecting constituents in the region; updates the senator and relevant policy staff on local developments in assigned region/portfolio. -Assists with strategic planning of the senator’s state work period appearances and events; provides feedback on opportunities for the senator to connect with constituents; plans and coordinates outreach events; and assists with other projects as required. -Supervises selection of candidates for U.S. military academies.

CASEWORKER
Pay Range: $45,000-$60,000
Preferred experience: -Bachelor’s or advanced degree -Previous advocacy, legal, or social work experience or training -Significant professional and management experience
Responsibilities: -Coordinates with the Casework manager. -Manages issues/ caseworkers; coordinates casework to ensure that duplicative efforts are prevented; ensures that casework is performed in a timely fashion; advises the senator, Chief of Staff, and State Director of specific cases requiring their personal involvement. -Assists the State Scheduler with the senator’s state office visits. -Might approve mail transmitted from the state office. -Could serve as the office emergency coordinator and ensures proper education and training in evacuation procedures, inventory of emergency equipment and supplies, and overall continuity of operations.
