Today, Representative John Curtis (R-UT) released the following statement after the resolution to name the North Ogden Department of Veteran’s Affairs Outstation the Major Brent Taylor Vet Center Outstation passed the House of Representatives unanimously. “Today I proudly supported a bill to rename the Veteran Affairs Center in Ogden, Utah after Major Brent Taylor,” said Curtis. “A beloved mayor, father, husband, and a devoted Utah National Guard Soldier, Brent never hesitated to serve his community and country. We are forever indebted to soldiers like Major Taylor, and I challenge all of us to live in a way that is worthy of their service.” Background The legislation renames the North Ogden Department of Veteran’s Affairs outstation the ‘Major Brent Taylor Vet Center Outstation’ after Major Brent Taylor, who lost his life on November 3, 2018 while deployed to Afghanistan during an unprecedented year-long leave of absence from his service as the Mayor of North Ogden. The legislation passed unanimously in the Senate yesterday after being introduced in November 2018 by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and former Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), and in the House of Representatives by Rob Bishop (R-UT). Jennie Taylor, wife of fallen Major Taylor, attended the 2019 State of the Union in Washington DC last month. Curtis attended and spoke at the reception in her honor. The Congressman also spoke on the House floor in November, paying homage to his friend and colleague Brent. The two served as Mayors of Provo and North Ogden, respectively.
