Washington, D.C. — Last week, Representative John Curtis (R-UT) joined with Speaker McCarthy and other members of Congress at the Reagan Presidential Library to meet with Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen.

"I am honored to join the Speaker and bipartisan colleagues in welcoming the President of Taiwan to the Reagan Presidential Library,” said Rep. Curtis. “Taiwan is a beacon of democracy and freedom in the Indo-Pacific region, and our meeting reaffirms the United States unwavering support for our Taiwanese friends. My time in Taiwan in the late 70s and early 80s left a lasting impression on me, and I am proud to continue building upon the strong foundation of friendship and cooperation between our two nations."

Congressman Curtis, who has a deep personal connection to Taiwan, served his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the country starting in 1979 and lived there again in the 80s with his wife. He also led a congressional delegation trip to Taiwan in December of 2022, where he and his colleagues met President Tsai, Vice President Lai, and several Ministers where they engaged in productive discussions on a range of issues including trade, security, and regional stability.

The meeting at the Reagan Presidential Library comes at a critical time as the United States and Taiwan work together to address shared challenges and promote peace and prosperity in the region.
