Representative John Curtis, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement after President Trump announced that he will not be meeting with North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 12, 2018, as previously scheduled.
“Yesterday, during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, I asked Secretary of State Pompeo about the U.S.’s objective for the summit between President Trump and Kim Jong-un. Secretary Pompeo testified that the Administration’s objective is the complete denuclearization of North Korea. Despite the cancellation of the Singapore summit, I continue to urge this Administration to apply maximum pressure on Kim’s regime—both economically and diplomatically—so that that we may achieve a peaceful end to North Korea’s nuclear program.”
