Today, Olympic and Paralympic Caucus Co-Chairs Rep. John Curtis (R-UT), Rep. Jim Langevin (D-RI), Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO), and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) introduced a resolution celebrating the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Team USA. On behalf of the caucus, the co-chairs lent their support to the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games for proceeding in a safe and secure manner, commended the Japanese government for hosting the Games, recognized the participating American athletes, coaches, and families, and affirmed their support for the goals and ideals of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. "As a Co-chair of the Olympic and Paralympic Caucus, I'm proud to introduce this resolution in support of our athletes competing in Tokyo,” said Rep. John Curtis. “Many Olympic athletes are Utahns — we at home applaud them and their families for their dedication to their craft and to healthy competition.” “I am so proud of the 613 American Olympians and Paralympians competing in Tokyo this summer, representing the very best of the United States on the world stage,” said Rep. Jim Langevin. “The members of Team USA have spent countless years honing their skills and preparing for this moment, and I join the rest of the country in wishing them the very best. In particular, congratulations to Emily Sisson, Anders Weiss, and Stuart McNay who are representing their fellow Rhode Islanders in Tokyo – we’re all cheering for you!” “Our Olympic athletes represent the best of the best, demonstrating unbelievable skill, strength and resilience. I’m particularly proud of the 34 Coloradans competing in more than 14 sports – the third most from any state in this year’s games,” said Rep. Ed Perlmutter. “This resolution demonstrates our strong support of all the Team USA athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympics. We wish you the best of luck!” “As Co-Chair of the Olympic and Paralympic Caucus, and the representative of Lake Placid, home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games, I am proud to cosponsor this resolution and support Team USA,” said Rep. Elise Stefanik. “I wish all the best to our athletes, especially to the North Country’s own Brooke Mooney, from Keene Valley. We, like your families and friends, are cheering for you from afar!” Background The Congressional Olympic and Paralympic Caucus was formed in 2010 to support Team USA and is dedicated to supporting educating Congress about the goals and spirit of Olympic-related athletic activity, increasing diversity in athletics, promoting clean and fair competition, expanding youth sports, highlighting the benefits of sports to individuals with disabilities, and supporting the vision of enabling athletes to realize their Olympic and Paralympic dreams.
