Representative John Curtis (UT-03) this week introduced bipartisan legislation with Representative Sherrill, and 8 other Republican and Democratic Members requiring the Administration to submit a report to Congress within 30 days detailing the actions being taken to end the infant formula shortage. Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) has introduced companion legislation. 

“Utah has the highest birth rate in the country, and I continue to hear from many parents that are deeply concerned about the nationwide baby formula shortage,” said Rep. Curtis. “We have families in need of solutions. This situation requires transparency from President Biden and his Administration so it can be addressed swiftly and appropriately.”

“As a mother of four children, I can only imagine the fear and uncertainty that so many parents are feeling right now as they struggle to find formula to provide the necessary nourishment and nutrition for their infants,” said Rep. Sherrill. “It is crucial that the Biden administration work quickly across all agencies to address this crisis and bring new supplies of formula onto the market as soon as possible. This legislation will support this essential effort by ensuring that each Executive Agency is doing everything it can to respond to the formula shortage and by bringing needed transparency and oversight to their actions.”

“Four months ago, the FDA closed a formula manufacturing site without taking steps to ensure infant formula supply levels would remain sufficient, leaving millions of babies without the food they need,” said Senator Cotton. “This shortage is a direct result of the Biden administration’s actions, and the President needs to take start taking this seriously."
